Broome County Jail opts into federal immigration enforcement program
Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar has signed an agreement with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to allow correction officers to serve warrants to inmates wanted by federal immigration authorities. The ICE program, called 287g, enlists local sheriffโs offices to assist with immigration enforcement.
